Oakland Raiders Marc Badain Blows Gasket Over SNTIC Reduced Las Vegas NFL Stadium Funding Proposal

Oakland Raiders Marc Badain Blows Gasket Over SNTIC Reduced Las Vegas NFL Stadium Funding Proposal - Video

Well, after being blasted and made fun of on a consistent basis by some so-called Oakland Raiders fans, I have not one problem saying that I told you so. I said that Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval's Southern Nevada Tourism and Infrastructure Committee (SNTIC) – the temporary group he formed to bring attention to pressing capacity problems with all types of infrastructure in that state - would wind up considering a proposal that would result in a lower public funding portion than the level that Oakland Raiders Owner Mark Davis said was something he had to have: $750 million. I also said the SNTIC would not take action on the Oakland Raiders Las Vegas Stadium, and they did not – but what they did talk about doing in the stadium workshop session set the tone for what will be an amazing July 11th meeting: an alternative proposal of $550 million from hotel tax revenues over a 30 year period. And an amount not far off from where I said it would be. As I have said before, that's not at all surprising because there is not enough projected hotel tax revenue to do both LVCC Expansion and the Las Vegas Raiders Stadium and at the bond debt coverage ratios called for; what is surprising to me is that Oakland Raiders President Marc Badain would basically lose his temper over the matter. When faced with the news, Badain said for the public to hear that the news “Was terrible for the Raiders Organization” and that he was “disappointed by what we've seen today” and let it be known that the reduction of the public tax revenue share “would be viewed as a negative by the team.” Marc should have just clipped himself. What he should have said is “We'll take a look at this proposal and talk more about it after the meeting.” But the way he and his Majestic Realty and Las Vegas Sands colleagues handled the news was such that they showed right off the bat how collectively unfamiliar with high-stakes politics they are. Especially Badain, who has been the Raiders President for just over one year, and all of that was evident at the SNTIC meeting and just when the situation called for political savvy. Instead, Badain reached for the old Al Davis playbook of domination that worked for the organization in the 20th Century, but only pisses people off and makes them find ways around the Silver and Black in the 21st Century. What Marc forgot, if he was ever trained to know it, is that in the field of high-stakes politics, one always prepares for the alternative, keeps his or her cool, and has a backup plan. Badain and his friends showed they were not ready for negotiating prime time with their reactions. About now, you may be wondering why I read like I'm upset with Marc given that he's all but doomed his Las Vegas project to failure. It's because we in Oakland have had to deal with the same person and organization, that's why. I am going to save the Oakland side of my blast of the Raiders management and negotiating style for another post, but I have to report I thought the organization's lack of preparation was something evident only in Alameda County. Nope. Not at all. Mark Davis and Marc Badain have mishandled Carson and now Las Vegas – they're better off staying in Oakland, where they have true friends among elected and appointed officials. The Las Vegas people are completely smooth cut throat experts apparently cut from the same cloth as the legendary Pete Rozelle, the NFL Commissioner – they nice you to death. Yours, not theirs. In this case, Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson has thrown Davis and Badain to the wolves. Adelson knows full well there are powerful business interests that want the expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center, and he's using the Raiders to stop their efforts because he objects to the use of public money for convention centers. Oh, and let's not forget his own hotels and casinos and convention centers in Las Vegas and Macao, China, either. Wants to make sure the business playing field is tilted in their direction. It never occurred to Mark Davis or Marc Badain just how much these people who run the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Convention and Visitors Bureau really want him out of the way, but they will never at all say it. Sure. Of course they want the NFL, but not using a scenario that cuts into their seed corn: hotel tax revenue. So, they're being real nice about it, and making it look like the Raiders are going to get what they want. But what's happening is, little by little, the Raiders aren't getting what they want at all. And on Thursday, Steven Hill, the Chairman of the SNTIC, and the Director of Economic Development for Nevada, said the magic words that make this the very battle I did not see coming, but now it all makes sense: Hill said they were going to compare the economic benefits of both the LVCC Expansion and the Raiders Las Vegas Stadium, side-by-side. Wow. CONT....

Why Brexit Should Worry American Democrats In Clinton v Trump

Why Brexit Should Worry American Democrats In Clinton v Trump - Video

Brexit. The vote to have Great Britain leave the European Union that is called Brexit was such that this vlogger didn't expect it to pass. When the idea of the EU was presented in the mid 80s, the objective was to create a kind of United States of Europe. A teaming up of European nations that would collectively rival the economic power of America. Or that was the intent. While the EU has worked very well in some ways, like Airbus Industries, it has not worked well in solving the same have versus have not economic problem we have in America. That has led to a rise in racism and anti-immigrant sentiment that some politicians over there have tapped into. Much like Donald Trump's rise to Presumptive Republican Presidential Nominee has been built on anti-immigrant ideas and racism in America. Young voters can stop this but in the UK context of Brexit, millennials did not vote at the rate expected - many sat at home. Looking at the fact that compared to 2008, when Barack Obama became the first black president of The United States, Democratic voter turnout as a whole is less as a percentage than it was then. We have to look to millennials to ask why. In the case of Donald Trump, Republican voter turnout was so high that record were set in 10 states. They were not paced by young voters but baby boomers. The Democratic Party has to really gear up its get out the vote program to prevent this. Because if we don't, we could wind up with Trump as President. That would be a bad thing. Stay tuned.

Ronnie Lott Group To Be Developer Of Oakland Raiders NFL Stadium At Coliseum City

Ronnie Lott Group To Be Developer Of Oakland Raiders NFL Stadium At Coliseum City - Video

Ronnie Lott Group To Be Developer Of Oakland Raiders NFL Stadium Coliseum City Haters of the idea of the Oakland Raiders remaining in Oakland, and are so jonesing for a relocation to Las Vegas they are (as of this moment in fact) attending the meeting of the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee hoping for some crumb of information that would push their agenda are in for a bellyache. After a lot (excuse the pun) of talks with a number of officials and friends, I can tell you this now – indeed, it is important so as to destroy the lie that Oakland's not doing a thing to retain the Raiders. The group of builders, bankers, and investors assembled by Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers NFL Hall Of Fame Legend Ronnie Lott have been quietly working with what I will call “East Bay Officials” to present a plan not just for the development of a stadium for the Raiders, but the ultimate development of between 35 and 40 acres of land around it. Within weeks, the Oakland City Council and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors will be presented with a resolution that will call for the approval of a “Memorandum of Understanding” between the East Bay Officials and Ronnie Lott's Group. Now, before you start thinking of Floyd Kephart, let's discard that idea right now; Lott's group is of such economic power it's capable of financing the construction of the entire proposed stadium in much the same way that LA Rams' Owner Stan Kronke set up a network of eight banks to back the construction of his privately financed stadium in Inglewood, California. The only public investment that might be required is for infrastructure, and that's being worked out as I write this. Moreover, Lott's group is has an ally in NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who has stated more than once his desire that the Raiders remain in Oakland with what he calls a "long term stadium solution". Now, you are probably wondering why the resolution would call for an MOU and not an “Exclusive Negotiating Agreement”? That came directly from Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's lack of desire to send a message that the East Bay Officials were locked into one deal process they could not get out of should things go wrong. It's not that an ENA would not be done, but the Mayor wants to make sure that all of the details are worked out. That's a good idea because the ENA process with Kephart's New City Development Corporation and done under now former Oakland Mayor Jean Quan was a total disaster. No one could talk to anyone else, even to suggest an adjustment to Kephart's plan that would improve the total approach. Now, there's more room to adjust Lott's plan to achieve success. It's not that Mayor Schaaf doesn't want Lott's Group, she does – but Libby is very much concerned that everything be done to make the plan a certainty. And that includes the much talked about Land Proposal to the Oakland Raiders. The formation of the Land Proposal is still in its forming stages but the process is going well, I'm told. You should expect some news on this probably around the same time that news of the MOU officially comes to public view. In closing, keep in mind that the general plan for Coliseum City was approved by the Oakland City Council last year – the only hole in the plan was for the stadiums for baseball and football. Now, efforts are underway to close that gap and in a way that takes as little public investment as possible. Stay tuned.

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D) Michigan of the 12th District that includes Ann Arbor and Dearborn, just let loose with the most passionate speech I have heard during this House Democrats Sit In On Gun Control. This sit in has gone on for over 12 hours to this point. It's amazing. And a tremendous rebuke to those who say don't get involved. Her husband is another Democrat, John Dingell. She was elected to succeed him in November of 2014. She mentions knowing what it was like to have a gun pointed at her and wonder if she was going to live. I am trying to find a record of any kind of situation she was in that was reported. This is on CSPAN. Right now. The sit in continues as of 12:43 am EST.

The House Democrats, led by Rep. John Lewis, have staged a good old fashioned sit in in the House Of Representatives that started several hours ago and is still going on. The Periscope live stream of Rep. Scott Peters of South Dakota has received over 1 million views and gets around 6,200 views at any one time. This because CSPAN was blocked from showing the proceedings. But CSPAN has figured out how to tie in to the live steam and now it's on live. Stay tuned. It's 11:22 pm EST.

UNLV Las Vegas Oakland Raiders Stadium News Update

UNLV Las Vegas Oakland Raiders Stadium News Update - Video

UNLV Las Vegas Oakland Raiders Stadium News Update The update here in this video explains why the Southern Nevada Tourism and Infrastructure Committee only has stadium proposal alternatives for discussion on the June 23rd agenda of the SNTIC. The fact is the information that UNLV could make the airport site work from an FAA standpoint was old news but it was not reported after two things happened: first Sheldon Adelson bought the Las Vegas Review Journal last November and then the Raiders stepped in to the picture. After that the Review Journal took the stance that the FAA site UNLV said could not work, could work because they got a hold of a consultant who was not on the project but was used as a PR mouth piece. So the real story was buried. The truth is the a Raiders and Las Vegas Sands and Majestic don't have a workable site and are still miles away from securing one. Also many don't understand the role of the SNTIC. Whatever it does goes to the governor and then to the Infrastructure Committee of the Nevada Legislature. There is a chance the football stadium never makes it out of committee, where LVCC Expansion does. Stay tuned.

UNLV Cut Ties With Raiders/ Majestic Really Gave Up On Las Vegas Airport Site

UNLV Cut Ties With Raiders/ Majestic Really Gave Up On Las Vegas Airport Site - Video

According to the Las Vegas Sun on June 3rd and in an article that was written in such a way as to not mention the Oakland Raiders or the NFL, the University of Nevada Las Vegas gave up on their pursuit of a football stadium on land next to Las Vegas International Airport because they believed the FAA restrictions were too much to overcome. UNLV then considered a second site on land offered by Majestic Realty, but then rejected that too. UNLV is working on its own to build a 50,000 seat stadium. This then explains why the Oakland Raiders Las Vegas Stadium project is still in the discussion phase of the Southern Nevada Tourism and Infrastructure Committee and why June 23rd has just the LVCC Expansion recommendation. The stadium is further behind schedule than has been reported. There are too many unknowns to force a recommendation at this time. Like, for one, where will it be? Stay turned.

SNTIC Agenda Has No Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium Action Item For June 23rd

SNTIC Agenda Has No Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium Action Item For June 23rd - Video

SNTIC Agenda Has No Oakland Raiders Las Vegas NFL Stadium Action Item For June 23rd In just posting the agenda for the June 23rd meeting of the Southern Nevada Tourism and Infrastructure Committee, the SNTIC is clearly sending the message that the evaluation of the expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center is far and away first priority over an NFL stadium for the Oakland Raiders in Sin City. Contrary to some reports that the “Nevada Committee” would recommend the Raiders stadium over LVCC Expansion on the same June 23rd date, the new agenda has no action item related to football. But it does have two action items related to fuel use at McCarran International Airport, and on a recommendation document that if accepted will be part of the final report to the Governor of Nevada, and then to the Infrastructure Committee of the Nevada Legislature. In other words, the SNTIC, while important, is by no means the final decision making body on Oakland Raiders Owner Mark Davis' path to any success he seeks in Las Vegas. Indeed, in partnering with Sheldon Adelson and his staffers, Davis is with a group that is not the greatest political power in Nevada. People don't jump when Adelson snaps his fingers. This fact is compounded by the hubris Adelson and his charges exhibit in trying to fix the media message to report a positive outcome for their objective – how many times have media reporters who elected to parrot their points of view wound up with egg on their face this year? Well, working backward, we have this week's error as reported by the posting of what's marked as the “final agenda” for June 23rd and it not even mentioning any approval of a stadium plan. Then we had the total bonehead reports that completely ignored the fact that the hotel tax revenue was already ear-marked for LVCC and done on the same NFL Draft April 28th day that Mark Davis first spoke to the SNTIC, all the while writing as if the use of the same hotel tax would be done BEFORE recommendation of it's use by the SNTIC! Got that? The main problem here is the traditional media types don't take time to read the documents presented on the website. They're content to quote someone, and thus feed false gossip. That's why I don't call myself a journalist; I'm a blogger and vlogger. I don't just go quote someone just to get a voice to say what I want printed – I seek to understand what's really happening, and to do that one has to conduct research and find the right documents, then compare what those docs say against what they're told. But I digress. The June 23rd meeting will have a stadium workshop to talk about proposal alternatives. That should give anyone an idea of how this is really going for The Raiders. Stay in Oakland. Stay tuned.
