Hines 410 20th Street’s Paul Paradis Called Thomas Berkley, Oakland Post Publisher, Politician. No. At the May 5th 2021 Oakland Planning Commission Hearing, Hines Real Estate's 410 20th Street Representative Paul Paradis Called Thomas Berkley, Oakland Post Publisher, Politician. No. That’s wrong. Mr. Berkley was publisher of the Oakland Post, one of the largest black newspapers in America, and the first on the west coast. In 1996, Mr. Berkley was introduced to me by my boss at the time, Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris. Mayor Harris asked me, his economic advisor, to go with Mr. Berkley to meet a member of the L.A. County Coliseum Commission and regarding a development project the Post Publisher wanted to bring to Oakland. At his Oakland Post Office, Mr. Berkley showed me his law library and printing press. He then said that he was fighting a war. An information war. He also said that the person who controlled media and law controlled what people thought about him and what they could do to him. That was Tom Berkley. His name should be on 410 20th Street. It should be called The Thomas Berkley Building. Stay tuned.
