UC Berkeley Student Sit In At Wheeler Hall Joe Talks UC Berkeley and University of California System students are protesting and holding a rally today to fight a planned increase in tuition that would result in a cost to attend Cal that is 15 times greater than it was in 1987, when I attended Berkeley. I talked to UC Berkeley student Joe about what the students want from Governor Jerry Brown. "It is a downright shame that this great public institution is being privatized against the original constitution and the master plan," Joe said (real full name not given). "We are willing to push for a multitude of legislative options" to solve the problem. While what they are doing is right, the group needs to focus on a set of solutions, and push for them. The "Occupy" protest model has a flaw: it fears pushing for a single answer, so potential supporters lose interest, and such efforts can be hijacked by outside interests.
