Jerry Teach, Here’s Why Your Jon Gruden Oakland Raiders NFL Coaching Comment Was Racist - Video

Jerry Teach, Here’s Why Your Jon Gruden Oakland Raiders NFL Coaching Comment Was Racist Jerry Teach, you wrote a comment on my Zennie62.com blog that I regard as racist. I normally don't approve such takes, but since yours rubber-stamps institutional racism, it was the perfect canddate for a teachable moment. First, racism is defined as “is the belief in the superiority of one race over another, which often results in discrimination and prejudice towards people based on their race or ethnicity.” What you have done is attempt to criticize me for pointing to generations of institutional racism in the NFL and as currently practiced. Specifically, Jon Gruden naming two white NFL assistant coaches as the ones he wants to hire, even before he was officially selected as Oakland Raiders Head Coach. In your rant, you point to two very tired arguments: first, the one that the Oakland Raiders hired Amy Trask as the first female CEO, then Art Shell as the first African American NFL head coach, and then Tom Flores as the first Latino NFL head coach. So, what? Just because any organization has firsts in the past does not give them brownie points to adopt a racist practice in the present. Where do I go with that? Do I assume that you really, yourself, know that is wrong, but don't care because you don't want to see society improve and stop practices of racial bias? If so, then your actions support racism, and therefore are racist. Then, you bring up another really over-used argument: population. As in, population percentage. But, I guess realizing that my take would be that 70 percent of NFL players are black, you then just bascially say to yourself, “well, the real deal for me is I'm just tired of all of these black folks in the NFL”! That's what you wrote Jerry Teach, That's what it boils down to. But the biggest and most racist act of all from you in for you as a white man to tell me as a black man what racism is, and to stop complaining about what is institutional racism defined: “Institutional racism (also known as institutionalized racism) is a form of racism expressed in the practice of social and political institutions. Institutional racism is also racism by individuals or informal social groups, governed by behavioral norms that support racist thinking and foment active racism. It is reflected in disparities regarding wealth, income, criminal justice, employment, housing, health care, political power and education, among other things. Whether implicitly or explicitly expressed, institutional racism occurs when a certain group is targeted and discriminated against based upon race. Institutional racism is mostly implicit in our ideas and attitudes, so it is often unnoticed by the individual expressing it (see implicit bias).” In this case, you, Jerry Teach, are the individual expressing institutional racism: you claim to want a system that swaps out one set of black players for another set who are not, and so on. You do this thinking its cute, while all the more showing how awful your point of view is. Ah, racist. The fact is, the NFL lacks black head coaches and coodinators because African Americans aren't selected to fill those positions by a power structure that's owned and controlled by people who are seen to be white. For you to attack anyone complaining about this, in itself, supports the maintenance of the problem. Therefore, again, you're racist. Your attempt at 'equalizing' our experience in life is also racist as it trivalizes what blacks deal with every day. How dare you try and tell me what racism is. Please stop debasing yourself. The bottom line is, it's plain wrong for Jon Gruden to be so openly insensitive to the problem of race in the NFL, and to not by appearances know any good black assistant coaches. Paul Gunther, the Cincinnati Bengals Defensive Coodinator that Jon Gruden named had a defensive unit that was ranked 18th in the NFL. John Morton, the New York Jets Offensive Coordinator that Mr. Gruden named as his desired offensive coodinator, ran a unit that ranked 28th in the NFL. So don't tell me he's picking “the best” as some have stupidly said. Don't try. Meanwhile Harold Goodwin was Arizona Cardinals Offensive Coordinator for all of the years Carson Palmer was the team's QB. While Arizona's offense was 23rd in the NFL this year, it was 9th the year before, 2016, and number one in 2015. Who ran the offense as coach and has since 2013? Harold Goodwin. That's the man Gruden should want – but guess what? He's black. Jerry Teach. Your take is racist. Period.
