James Mitchell Grant Sr. was hired by the Chicago Police Department in 1953, and retired after 33 years of service in 1986. During his professional career with the CPD, Sike was a patrolman, a detective in gang intelligence, and retired as a Specialty Police Technician II”. In 1987, after both he and his wife Mary retired from their jobs, they relocated to Montgomery, Alabama from Chicago.
