Rebecca Kaplan, Oakland Councilmember’s Bad Tweet On “Designated Survivor” At Inauguration Is Upsetting. Just what the hell my friend Oakland Councilmember Rebecca Kaplan was doing up at 4:14 AM writing a tweet that tags House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, President-Elect Joe Biden, and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, and asks this: “Who is the “designated survivor “ for the inaugural? Who in the line of Presidential Succession will stay away, outside the target zone? Then she tagged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and the aforementioned Biden and Harris, asking “have you made plans for someone to be safely offsite?” She wrote that as you can see in the vlog. I am wondering if Rebecca was drunk when she did it? The answer to Rebecca’s question is that the outgoing administration chooses the designated survivor. That falls to Trump. Since he is offsite anyway, a rather scary case could be made that he may be planning something against the incoming administration. If that was Rebecca’s concern, she should have said so. As it is, it’s a bad look. But the real question is what the hell is Donald Trump doing being allowed not to be at the Inauguration? Stay tuned.
