Chinatown Robbery Oakland Mayor Schaaf Gets Gov Gavin Newsom Help To Stop Chinatown Violence At a press event Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said that he granted a request from Mayor Libby Schaaf to provide additional California Highway Patrol CHP traffic enforcement resources into Oakland’s major commercial corridors and along International Blvd. The new collaboration is in response to Oakland community leaders who requested more state resources to areas experiencing a traumatic increase in violent crimes and dangerous traffic violations. The mayor addressed the Governor’s announcement today and a video of her response can be found here. “We are responding to the demands of our residents for more law enforcement safety,” Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said. “I am going to continue to look for every resource. I am going to continue to try and get adequate staffing in the Oakland police department, especially for investigations.
